Sequence layers
Last updated
A Sequence layer holds a run of clips cut back-to-back on one row.

Clip is only used in reference to an item within a Sequence layer. Everywhere else, the word is layer.
Why use one
Section titled “Why use one”A Sequence layer suits cutting more than compositing. One row holds a whole run of shots, so the timeline remains clean.
Each clip carries its own

- Trim, in and out.
- Retime.
Edit clips
Section titled “Edit clips”To edit a Sequence layer’s clips or Retime, double-click the Sequence layer in the Timeline.
- Drag a clip’s edge to trim it.
- Drag a clip along the row to move it.
- Use the razor to split a clip at the playhead. A cut between two clips is an edit point.
Editing a clip’s Retime never alters its starting point.
The razor cuts through an eased speed ramp. What it refuses is a cut on a clip’s own ends, or a retime driven by an expression.
What applies to the whole layer
Section titled “What applies to the whole layer”Effects, masks, transforms, and switches on a Sequence layer apply to its whole output, once the clips have been retimed. They are not per-clip.
Apply something to one shot only by splitting it out, or by using a separate layer.
