Roughen edges
Last updated
Roughen edges is a Stylise effect.

What it does
Section titled “What it does”The outline of a shape gets warped by fractal noise.

In the Effect Controls panel:
- Evolution options groups Cycle evolution, Cycle, and starts closed.
- Cycle is editable while Cycle evolution is on.
- Edge colour is editable while Colour edge is on.
- Matte scales Border per pixel: white chews the outline at the full Border, grey takes finer bites, black leaves it alone. Invert reads that matte inverted.
What each control does
Section titled “What each control does”- Edge type: Roughen for a soft irregular outline, Cut for hard edges, Spiky for sharp points.
- Border: intensity of how much is removed from the edges.
- Edge sharpness: how crisp the edge is.
- Fractal influence: how far the noise moves the outline.
- Scale: the scale of the noise.
- Offset x and Offset y: adjusts the position of the noise.
- Complexity: how many octaves of detail are summed in the noise.
- Evolution: changes the phase of the noise.
- Cycle evolution and Cycle: make Evolution loop after a whole number.
- Colour edge and Edge colour: paint the roughened edge in one colour.
- Seed: randomises the noise pattern used.
- Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
- Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
