Effects console

Last updated

Press Ctrl+Space anywhere, and the effects console opens on your mouse: a search bar, and a radial menu centred around the cursor, below it (if enabled).

Type, and a dropdown appears under the bar with everything that matches:

  • Effects first, compositions after a divider.
  • Matching is loose: type gau and Gaussian blur is the top row. The letters only have to appear in order, so db finds Directional blur.
  • Enter applies the top match to every selected layer.
  • The arrow keys move the selected option; Escape clears the search first and closes second.

The camera button beside the search field saves the frame you are looking at as a PNG. Snapshots land in a Snapshots folder beside your saved project, or in your Pictures folder if the project has never been saved.

Every choice in the ring stays in a fixed direction from the centre.

  • Flick, or click. Press and drag in a direction and release: the option in that direction runs. Clicking an option directly works too.
  • The middle cancels. Release with the pointer still in the centre and nothing happens.
  • Escape closes it.

Some options open submenus. Choose one to expand the ring in place, replacing the existing radial menu. Clicking the centre steps back to the previous menu; Escape steps back too, one level at a time.

The ring displays options relevant to the item you currently have focused:

You haveThe ring offers

New ▸ expands into the same entries as the Layer ▸ New menu, in the same order.

With a layer selected, Keyframe ▸ expands into an option per transform row: Anchor point, Position, Scale, Rotation, Opacity. Choosing one adds a keyframe at the playhead holding the value the property currently has.

A row driven by an expression is dimmed. See Keyframes.

Ctrl+Shift+P opens the command palette. The palette is every command by name; the console is largely effects and context-relevant options.
