Falloff

Falloff is a Generate effect.

Draws a shape that fades from full to none. Picked as the Matte of another effect, it sets where that effect acts. On Fade layer it fades the layer’s own picture instead.

Several Falloffs on one layer combine through their Blend rows: Multiply keeps the overlap, Screen or Add joins them, and Subtract cuts one out of another.

  • Shape: Circle and Box are full in the middle and fade towards the edge of an ellipse or a rectangle Width by Height. Linear ramps from full to none across Width. Sweep turns round Centre, clockwise, over Arc.
  • Centre: the middle of the shape.
  • Width and Height: the size of the shape.
  • Rotation: turns the shape, and sets the direction of Linear and where Sweep starts.
  • Softness: how much of a Circle or Box fades towards its edge.
  • Arc: how far Sweep turns.
  • Repetitions: how many times the Linear and Sweep ramps repeat inside their length.
  • Curve: the shape of the fade. Bell is full halfway, and none at the middle and the edge.
  • Strength: scales the result.
  • Invert falloff: swaps full and none, before Strength.
  • Binary: cuts the picture into cells, each fully on with a chance equal to the falloff there.
  • Cell size: the size of Binary’s cells.
  • Seed: which cells Binary turns on.
  • Output: Greyscale draws an opaque grey picture, Alpha draws white whose transparency is the falloff, and Fade layer fades the layer’s own picture.
  • Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
  • Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
