In the Effect Controls panel:

  • Matte scales Radius per pixel: white takes the middle of the full window, grey of a smaller one, black leaves the pixel alone. Invert reads that matte inverted.
  • Radius: the size of the square to pick the median from.
  • Operate on alpha: enables median working on the alpha channel as well as colour.
  • Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
  • Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
