Planar track

Last updated

Planar track is a Utility effect.

Follows a flat surface, or one or two points, through a shot, and writes the movement onto another layer as a Corner pin or as transform keys.

Where what is being followed stops being followable, the analysis stops there and keeps the part that worked.

  • Analyse: start tracking.
  • Cancel: stop a track that is running.
  • Create corner pin: put a keyframed Corner pin on the layer named below.
  • Create transform keys: keyframe that layer’s own Position, Rotation and Scale to the movement instead. The keys are added to what the layer already had. Following one point writes Position alone.
  • Follow: a flat surface as four corners, one point, or two points followed separately. Two points need not be on one surface.
  • Upper left, Upper right, Lower left and Lower right: the four corners of the surface. Read when Follow is Surface.
  • Point 1 and Point 2: the points to follow. Read when Follow is one of the point options; Point 2 only for Two points.
  • Region size: how wide each point’s search box is.
  • Pin layer: which layer the Corner pin, or the transform keys, are put on.
  • Feature density: how many specks the tracker chases. More is slower but copes better with a plain or badly lit surface.
  • Use masks: masks on the layer are left out of the track.
