Vegas is a Generate effect.

What it does
Section titled “What it does”Vegas finds a contour where the picture’s brightness or transparency crosses a level, and draws a stroke along it.

In the Effect Controls panel:
- Mask is editable while Source is set to Mask/Path.
- Threshold is editable while Source is anything but Mask/Path.
- Matte scales Opacity per pixel: white draws the stroke in full, grey faintly, black nothing at all. Invert reads that matte inverted.
What each control does
Section titled “What each control does”- Source: Luminance finds the contour from brightness. Alpha finds it based on alpha, and Mask/Path draws the stroke round one of the layer’s masks.
- Mask: which mask, while Source is Mask/Path.
- Threshold: thresholds what counts as a contour.
- Width: how thick the stroke is.
- Hardness: how crisp edges are.
- Segment length: the length of one dash and gap.
- Length: how much of one segment is lit, as a percentage.
- Rotation: offsets the dashes along the contour.
- Colour: the stroke’s colour.
- Opacity: how strong the stroke is.
- Composite on original: on, the layer the effect is on draws under the stroke.
- Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
- Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
