Block glitch
Last updated
Block glitch is a Distortion effect.

What it does
Section titled “What it does”Cuts the picture into a grid and pushes the blocks around. Some are moved, and some split their colour channels; others repeat a short slice of themselves.
Parameters
Section titled “Parameters”| Parameter | Control | Range | Default | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intensity | Slider | 0 to 1 | 0.35 | - |
| Block size | Slider | 4 to 128; down to 2 and higher | 24 | Pixels at composition size |
| Rows/columns jitter | Slider | 0 to 100 | 25 | Per cent |
| Displacement | Slider | 0 to 300; up to 1000 | 60 | Pixels at composition size |
| Channel offset | Slider | 0 to 200; up to 1000 | 20 | Pixels at composition size |
| Slice repeat | Slider | 0 to 100 | 20 | Per cent |
| Seed | Seed | Any whole number | A fresh random seed per instance | - |

In the Effect Controls panel:
- Matte scales Intensity per pixel: white glitches at the full Intensity, grey gently, black not at all. Invert reads that matte inverted.
What each control does
Section titled “What each control does”- Intensity controls the amount every other control is scaled by.
- Block size sets the size of the blocks.
- Rows/columns jitter decides how far the grid lines separate.
- Displacement is how far a block is displaced.
- Channel offset is how far a block’s red and blue are split.
- Slice repeat adjusts how often a block repeats a strip of itself.
- Seed picks which random value the glitch is based on.
- Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
- Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
