Posterize is a Colour effect.

Posterize recreates the effect of displaying an input in a reduced colour space.

Each of the red, green and blue channels is stepped separately.

In the Effect Controls panel:

  • Matte pulls Levels toward 256 per pixel: white cuts the ladder at Levels, black leaves a step too fine to see. Invert reads that matte inverted.
  • Levels: how many shades each channel keeps.
  • Mix: how much of the result replaces the original.
  • Matte and Invert drive the strength of the effect from another layer’s brightness; see Effects.
