Ring wave

Ring wave is a Siceliot effect.

Starts a ring every Interval and grows it outwards across the frame. Each point reads how strong the rings are where it stands, so Ring wave goes on the layer that holds Clone to points or Label points, wired into that effect’s own rows: Clone to points’ Scale, Rotation or Opacity, or Label points’ Change, Label scale, Text step or Label rotation. Anywhere else it reads at the top left corner of the composition.

It has four sockets:

  • Value: Minimum where no ring is, Maximum on a ring’s middle line.
  • Rotation: the turn a ring gives what it crosses, in degrees clockwise, strongest on its middle and following the way the ring travels.
  • Passes: how many rings have crossed the point. It goes up by one as each ring’s middle reaches the point, and never goes back.
  • Grow: how much bigger the rings make the point, per cent.

The same frame always reads the same values.

In the Effect Controls panel:

  • Clearance is editable while Origin is set to Away from points.
  • Minimum: the value where no ring is.
  • Maximum: the value on a ring’s middle line.
  • Interval: seconds between one ring and the next.
  • Speed: how fast a ring grows, in pixels a second.
  • Speed variance: how much faster or slower each ring may be.
  • Thickness min and Thickness max: how far from its middle line a ring fades to nothing. Each ring is somewhere between the two.
  • Origin: where the rings start. Anywhere on the frame, on its Edges, in its Centre, or Away from points, at least Clearance from every point it is wired to.
  • Clearance: how far from every point a ring starts, on Away from points.
  • Add up: rings that overlap add up past Maximum. Off, they stop at Maximum.
  • Grow min and Grow max: the least and the most a ring makes what it crosses grow, on the Grow socket. Each ring has its own amount between the two.
  • Spin: how much the rings turn what they cross, on the Rotation socket.
  • Seed: where each ring starts, how fast it grows and how thick it is.

On the layer that holds Label points, wire Value into Label points’ Change and Passes into Text step. A label scrambles as a ring crosses it and keeps the text the ring leaves it with. Grow, plus 100 through a Math set to Add, into Label scale swells each label as a ring passes.
