Gate
Gate is an Audio effect.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”Turns the sound down once it is quieter than the Threshold. The gate shuts once the level has fallen Hysteresis under the threshold and the Hold has run out. At the top of Ratio the gate shuts; lower down it is an expander that leans on the quiet parts.

What each control does
Section titled “What each control does”- Threshold: the level the gate opens at, in dB.
- Ratio: how steeply the quiet part is turned down, as n to 1. 1 is off.
- Hysteresis: how far under the threshold, in dB, the level falls before the gate may shut.
- Attack: how fast it opens once the sound arrives, in milliseconds.
- Hold: how long it stays open after the level drops, in milliseconds.
- Release: how fast it shuts once the hold has run out, in milliseconds.
- Range: the lowest a shut gate goes, in dB. 0 lets everything through and -100 is silence.
